These are some hamster toys that my kids (with a little assistance from me) made for their friends and their pet hamster.
Next, using a hacksaw I supervised my daughter cutting a dowel that she would glue between the wheels.
The wheels were a little rough around the edges, so she had to sand them down first.
Then she could glue the dowel between the wheels and finish making the toy.
Once again I supervised my daughter as she used the hacksaw to cut some really thick tube that the hamster will crawl in to and chew on. This thick tube should take longer than just having a toilet paper tube.
She cut out 2 tubes and each child decorated one to give their friends.
The final toy they made was to create a little shack for the hamster to crawl in to. I had them each make their own side and we used wood glue and popsicle sticks to make the walls. Once all the walls were finished and dried, I glued them together so they stood up and made a shack.
If we ever get the kids a hamster, I will have to remember this.
ReplyDeleteWhan an amazing DIY project for kids to do to their (or their friends´) hamsters!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I wish i would've had this information when I had hamsters!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a cute idea. I remember making little mazes for my pet turtles when I was a kid.

Cindy - this is precisely why I blogged about it! I went looking for ideas and couldn't find anywhere. There was a gap out there and I decided to fill it a little.
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas, for cheap and easy toys for the animals. :)
ReplyDeleteAwww, how cute. We had a hamster growing up named Brownie!
ReplyDeleteAww, great ideas. We have bunnies which are too big for these kinds of things but we have ferrets too so this might work for them.
