How to Make Apple Chips

I first saw this idea on Pinterest (who else is enjoying it?), but the details in that recipe left me with burnt chips. :( So, I had to start over and experiment and find the right combination of oven temperature and baking length.

They are easy to make and contain two simple ingredients: apple & cinnamon.

To begin with you need to core your apples. I found that 3 apples filled 2 cookie sheets nicely.

I have an apple corer, but you could just as easily carve out with a knife.

The next step is to slice the apple thinly. I wish I had thought to use my mandoline slicer to have a uniform thickness to make the baking times of the chips consistent. But I did not, and so it took between 1.5-2 hours to bake the slices.

Place your slices on your baking sheet and sprinkle with cinnamon. Bake at 250 degees for 1.5-2 hours (check after 1.5 hours to see if any are ready to be removed and replace baking sheets to finish baking the rest.)

Enjoy.

** I did find that they did not keep their crispness when sealed or until the next day. They were still tasty as dehydrated apples, but if you want them chip-like you should eat them shortly after they cool.

  1. I am going to try making them in the microwave next time and see how it turns out that way and let you know.
