Life Size Dinosaur Foot Print Project

It's no secret that my son is a HUGE dinosaur fan. I try to make our time at home more fun and educational by doing projects that are of interest to him,

This project we did on a day that he didn't have preschool and asked if he could stay in his dinosaur jammies all morning, which he did.:)

We made a life size T-Rex footprint, which is roughly 3.3 feet. So, we got our the roll of paper and I cut it so that it was just bigger than that and we taped it to the floor. Then I had him to a little math to figure out how many about how many inches .3 would be (yes, my preschooler can do some simple multiplication and division - his older sister taught him how to do it and he picked it up easily) and then measured it out with a tape measure on the paper.

Next I made dot-to-dots on the whole foot print and let him connect all the dots. After that he had to cut out the foot print and we then taped that down.

We couldn't just have a blank pieces of foot print, so I got out the paints and he got out his bin of dinosaurs and other creatures and he started stamping footprint and snake body prints all over the place.

He thought this this was a really fun project and enjoyed seeing just how big a T-Rex footprint was compared to him, considering they are about 40 feet long and 20 feet tall.

I love seeing kids get creative like this. I save paper all the time for craft time.

I love this idea - my little paleontologist would enjoy this activity. If it snows again, we just might make one in the snow!
