FREE Fishing for MOMS in Minnesota This Weekend

No fishing license for the opener, plus it's Mother's Day! Well, no problem for moms who are MN residents. Those moms can fish for FREE over Mother's Day Weekend (May 13-14), which is always fishing opener weekend! All other fishing laws are in effect, so be sure you know the rules and regulations.

Also - kids under 16 can always fish for free in MN. So kids, take your moms fishing for Mother's Day. Maybe catch some dinner and certainly make some memories.

Throwback Thursday: Camp MOM

I am heading back to last year right around this time when my friend Becky and I took her twins and my daughter to Camp MOM. I never got around to sharing these 2 pictures, so I am doing it now.

I did however share a bunch of other pictures and projects from Camp MOM and you can see them all in a nice list here:

We also make Camp MOM shirts from plain t-shirts and puffy paint, did a bunch of cooking outdoors, went hiking and canoeing, played at the park and went swimming at the lake.

We did all this together because I dropped the ball last year on getting my daughter signed up for her first overnight camp (which she decided against this year) and so I decided to create a "Camp Experience" for her complete with all the crafts and activities and bunkmates that going to an overnight camp offers.

Wordless Wednesday: Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Campground

This was where we stayed for Camp MOM. It is Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Campground and Park Reserve in Lino Lakes. Check out my other posts regarding to Camp MOM too!

Try It Tuesday - DIY Camp Lantern

We made these at Camp MOM (you gotta be getting curious about Camp MOM and I promise I will tell you more about it soon!) This project was something that the other mom, Becky, came up with us to do.

We re-purposed some jars and covered them in stickers and tape (the foam kind you can get at the dollar store or craft supply stores) in a pattern we liked. Then we spray painted frosted paint (do this step outdoors!) over the entire piece, including stickers. When it was dry we peeled off the stickers and the print was left.

Next we twisted craft wire around the top to create something for our wire handle to be held on to the jar with. Twist together enough craft wire to keep to keep it from bending too much and twist the ends through the wire around the top of the jar and twist in to place. Use scrap fabric to decorate. Insert a battery operated tea light or a regular tea light to provide illumination.

Try It Tuesday - Glam'ed Up Flip Flops

We made these flip flops during Camp MOM (stay tuned, there will be a other posts about our crafts and activities coming up over the next few weeks!)

I bought $1 flip flops when Old Navy had their sale, 3 bunches of flowers from the dollar store (although most of us chose the same flowers) and used leftover fabric and leftover beads and also used needle, thread & scissors.

All we did was cut strips of fabric that were about 1/2" in width by about 18" in length. We cut 2 pieces of fabric for each flip flop, so you need 4 strips for a pair. Next tie (double knot) one piece of fabric to one of the flip flop bands and wrap around until you come to the center where the two bands meet and then tie again. Repeat for all bands. Tie the ends of the fabric in the center where the two bands meet together. If your fabric is too thick to stay tie, you will need to put in a couple stitches to keep it in place.

Next take your flowers off the stem and remove all the plastic pieces, then re-stack your flower petals. Stitch the petal to the fabric in the center, as you bring your thread through the top add a bead and pull your thread back through the petals to the fabric. Repeat that for every bead you are adding. Tie off thread when you are finished.
