FREE Admission to MN History Centers for 6th Graders

I almost forgot about telling you about this, as I went ahead and purchased a family membership to the Minnesota Historical Society. All 6th graders in MN can get a FREE Pass to get FREE Admission in to all of the historical sites in MN. Of course, the rest of the family still has to pay, but you at least get one person in free. 

This might be a fun idea to have with you when you are planning your upcoming summer vacations because it is good through the end of August.

And if you have a 5th grader, remember this for September!

FREE Take a Kid Ice Fishing Weekend Coming Up

Mark your calendars!!! You have a bit of notice on this one! January 13-15, 2018 is going to be Take a Kid Ice Fishing Weekend, where any MN resident 16 and older can fish for free (no license required) if they are fishing with someone 15 and under.

If you have been meaning to do some ice fishing, bring a kid with you and teach them a little bit about our MN history of sitting on buckets, freezing, trying to catch a fish through a hole you have drilled in the ice. I am positive they will never forget these memories!

FREE Admission to National Parks for Veteran's Weekend (Nov 11-12)

In honor of Veteran's Weekend, there is FREE VEHICLE ADMISSION at all National Parks. YOu have 2 days to get out and enjoy the nature in these places for FREE!

Free Car Seat Rental through Hertz

Here is another perk of your AAA membership. If you have the need to rent a car and do so through hurts, you can get a car seat included free in your rental. This can save you almost $14 a day. 

I don't know if they include more than one if you have more than one child in a car seat at a time but it is worth asking if this is a service you need. 

In the past we have always checks a car seat or a booster seat to bring along with us and now we are almost out of the booster seat Fay as in Minnesota you are required to have a child in a booster seat until 8 years old. There are a couple of exceptions to have them be out of the seat earlier that include meeting a height or weight requirement but my kids will be in it until at least 8 and typically until they are the height requirement.

Free AAA for Teen Drivers

I have started to make a habit of reading the AAA magazine that comes in the mail with our membership to find out about different perks that are available that can help save me money.

This one doesn't affect me now but it will in the future and that time will come way too quickly. I thought I might have some readers that didn't know about this who might be interested in this perk. Any teen drivers with a learning permit can be added on to their parents policy for free. It covers them if they are driving or if they are riding with someone else.
With one little conversation you can let your child know some of the perks that their AAA membership provides them, including lockout service and gas delivery or Towing, just to name a few.

Smithsonian FREE Museum Day is coming up soon!! 9/23/17

We have taken advantage of this opportunity a few times in the past and I have in the back of my head as a possibility for our Girls Weekend, in case of inclement weather and we can't be on the beach, plus who know what Irma is going to do the beaches in Florida (yes, that is where we are heading). There are a TON of museums participating in Florida (85 to be exact!), but if you one of my many readers from MN, there are 26 to choose from here. Or for my readers from WI, there are 14 to choose from.

Kids Under 16 Fish FREE in MInnesota

Did you know that kids under 16 can fish for FREE in Minnesota? They do have to follow the rules and regulations for fishing, but they do not need a fishing license. If you kid(s) are 16-17 years old, a yearly fishing license has a nominal fee of $5 (THAT'S IT!) 

So, this coming Father's Day weekend - take your kids fishing.  You are bound to create some lasting memories with your kids.

If you remember, I mentioned last week that you can fish for free in MN State Parks and some parks have free fishing kits to use. You just have to catch the fish!

FREE Outdoor Music Entertainment at Bernw Wood Fired Pizza

Starting June 7th (TOMORROW!) and continuing on Wednesdays nights through August 30th you can head out to Berne, MN and take in some FREE outdoor musical entertainment from 2-3 bands per evening while enjoying wood fired pizza that is made on site there.

Remember to bring your chairs or a blanket to sit on and some beverages and side dishes. There may be limited availability of other food and beverages for purchase, beside the pizza. Definitely buy the pizza. It is delicious!

Adults Fish FREE in Minnesota June 9-11

This coming weekend is Family Fun Take a Kid Fishing Weekend and  residents of Minnesota 16 and older can fish for free for 3 days, June 9-11 if they are fishing with a kid 15 and younger, who do not need a fishing licence. So, take the whole family out fishing for free sometime this weekend. You have 3 days to choose from, or go fishing all 3 days!

FREE Bike Helmet for Kids at Safe Kids Safety Safari

Mark your calendar for Tuesday, June 13th from 10am - 1pm for the Safe Kids Safety Safari that is presented by the Minnesota Safety Council and Auto Club Group Traffic Safety Foundation. There will be lots of fun, games and learning and each child can get a new bicycle helmet (while supplies last).

The event will take place at Como Zoo, so why not explore this awesome free zoo while you are there (donations appreciated!)

Junior Naturalist Program at MN State Parks

This summer, help your kids become Junior Park Naturalist through the free program at the MN State Parks. The program runs all year long, but why not start this summer and help them earn all 3 badges and fill out their 3 free activity booklets. It will certainly be something they won't forget.

Last week I told you about a program where kids can bowl for free all summer long, and today I am telling you about a program where kids can skate for FREE all summer long. However, in MN there are only 2 skating rinks that participate. They are located in Woodbury and St. Louis Park. Although in our neighboring state of Wisconsin there are 7 locations.

Kids Bowl FREE This Summer!

There are 33 bowling alleys in Minnesota that Kids Bowl FREE at all summer long. In fact, there are locations all across the U.S.

In fact, it has already started, even if your school is not out of session.

They can bowl 2 free games, every day, all summer long. You do need to rent shoes or have your own. 

The nearest one for us is 30 miles away, so I doubt we will take advantage of this program but hopefully there are readers who do have one of them near them.
