#ad Review: LED Wireless Solar Powered Motion Sensor Light

My Thoughts:

When this LED Wireless Solar Powered Motion Sensor Light came up as a product for me to review, I quickly realized that this was a product I didn't yet know I needed. I have mentioned that we bought a cabin this past year, but the place we bought was someone's home before and so their outside light was turned on by a switch inside the house, but we don't want to leave a light on all the time and pay that electricity bill when we only need it to turn on when we arrive in the evening, which we often do because we leave after work/school and it takes several hours to get there.

This was really easy to install. My husband followed the clear instructions (but is pretty self explanatory when you look at the product) and attached it with the hardware that is included. We had tested it out before installing it to make sure it would work and it worked just fine. 

It gives off plenty of light above our cabin door so that we can see the locks and use our keys to get in. Before we would fumble in the dark or park the car with the lights aimed at the door so we could see, but now it comes on automatically when we walk up. I am even thinking this might be a good thing to install on a pole by the garden so that it turns off and scares the deer away.

I wouldn't hesitate to get one for our home either. I like the idea of using solar energy to power lights, in fact all of our landscaping lights are solar powered, but our security lights are all hard wired in to the electricity.

Try It Tuesday: Solar Prints

Lay items on top of contruction paper (darker colors work best) for 1-4 hours. Remove items and see the prints left behind. Talk about how the UV rays from the sun cause a chemical reaction in which the dye in the paper breaks down and causes it to fade in the spots that were not colored.

We taped the paper to the table to keep from blowing away as there was a slight breeze this day.

Choose items that are heavy enough, some of them did blow  off  during the 2 hours  they were setting out.

This was a  plastic dinosaur & a fish sand mold (that blew in to a different position than we had originally laid it in.)

#151 Making Sun Prints

This was quick, easy, fun and had a great impact on my daughter on what kind of power the sun has. There is no need to go buy special sun printing paper, just use construction paper (which happens to be on sale this week at Target for 88-cents for a pack!)

I read all sorts of instructions on doing this and lots of them said to let the items sit on the construction paper for 4-6 hours, one even said to tape the items down and put the paper in the window for a week! We got out prints in 1.5 hours and it wasn't even at high noon. It was from 2:30-4pm on a sunny day. That's it.

If you want to make more of a science experiment out of it, you could use the same color of paper and put them out at staggered times, but end them all at the same time.

We just used items around our house that could lay flat on the paper and wouldn't blow away in a slight wind.

My daughter plans to use her sun print paper as the cover to a book she wants to create, I am using mine as a card.

#150 Cook Outside with a Solar Oven

There are many different websites out there that tell you how to make a solar oven out of a pizza box, but the one I used was this one. My daughter got a kick out of the fact that the sun cooked her pizza. From the various websites I read, it seems like this is best left to heating up items that are precooked (like hot dogs) or are melted like pizzas we made with a tortilla crust or grilled cheese.
