Check out all the different Date-It Labels designs they have to offer? I chose one of the new designs of Retro. The other designs are called Country, Baby, Candied Dots and Picnic. I really had a hard time picking one design. I really wanted Candied Dots too. I will have to see if that print is in other labels so I can get that design.

I started using my labels to freeze some individual sized leftovers. The labels are safe to use in the freezer, fridge, dishwasher and microwave! I also used them to label my container for my homemade taco seasoning (I will be sharing that post with you very soon!) I plan on making some more homemade mixes and will use these labels on them as well as the leftovers and freezer meals I make.

Thrifty Thursday: Re-Use Plastic Lunch Meat Containers

Don't be so fast to recycle those plastic containers if you buy the ones that some lunch meats come in. Often they are the same quality as the Take Along variety that are sold in the "picnic" or "paper" products section of the grocery store. You will probably just need to remove the label & the adhesive used to attach the label on top, but that is easy enough.

These containers are great for sending home leftovers with guests or bringing along when traveling or camping since you don't need to worry if they are returned or ruined since they are free "Tupperware".

Some Chinese take-out places also use plastic containers that have be reused like this as well.

I send a packed lunch to school with my daughter about half the time. Each month when the new lunch menu comes out, we sit down and highlight the days she wants to eat hot lunch at school. This routine makes it easier on me because I can just look at the calendar and see if she said she wanted to eat it or not and I don't have to try to remember what she said.

When I had the opportunity to review ReUsies Re-usable Snack and Sandwich Bags, I was very excited. We try to keep our trash to a minimum when possible and for lunches that means having re-usable containers, cloth napkins and bulk items put in re-usable containers.

This top picture if of the "snack" bag right before I sealed it up to put in her lunch bag, but I thought it fit regular sized sandwich perfect. So saying snack size is a little misleading.

The picture below is of the "sandwich" bag, which is supposed to fit an adult sandwich, so I thought I would try out a 6" piece of french bread and see how it fit. As you can see it fit very well. I really think this is the size of re-usable container that was missing on the market, but it is now here. Now, I can make myself or my husband a sandwich piled high with veggies, meats and cheeses and it has a container it will fit in.

Free Reusable Tote @ Target (4/17)

To Kick off Earth Week on Sunday, Target is offering 1 free reusable tote per customer with any purchase. They are giving out 1 million of these just as they did last year. These went quickly at stores in larger metro areas, but if you live in small locations (like us) they won't disappear quite as quickly. Last year I went to Target in our area in the evening on the day they were giving them away and they still had them left.

Also, remember that Target will give you 5-cents off your total for every reusable bag that you bring & use at Target. And last year when they gave me my free bag, they also gave me 5-cents off.

#80 Use a Stainless Steel Water Bottle

Don't buy bottled water if you don't have to. Fill up with nice cold water from your tap and add a few ice cubes if that is your fancy. If you buy a good quality stainless steel bottle you will find that it will actually keep your water colder longer than a plastic bottle. Skip the plastic, you don't want any leaching that comes from plastics in either a reusable bottle or the disposable water bottles. And by filling up from your tap, all you are paying is the water from your water bill which is minimal compared to the cost per bottled water. And by reusing your container again & again you are not creating any additional waste to fill up landfills.

#79 Make Your Own Reusable Lunch Bag

I made one of these reusable homemade plastic lunch bags for a dear friend a couple of Christmases ago. I thought it turned out cute and used it as the reusable “wrapping” for other gifts that I stuffed inside. Once I figured out the correct temperature on my iron to use, it was really easy and was made relatively quickly. You need to use thicker plastic bags that you generally get from clothing stores as grocery store bags are too thin. I have only made the one and have not had the opportunity to make another because you do need of these 4-8 large bags and I honestly don't collect that many of them. I do think I used closer to 8 when I made mine as I wanted to be sure it was very sturdy. And the only thing you need to buy is some velcro, which you already may have in your crafting/sewing supplies.
