My Thoughts:

The cast line-up of big stars in The Identical movie (Ray Liotta, Ashley Judd, Seth Green and Blake Rayne) made this a movie I was excited to see. Then you add in that is a Christian movie that is family friendly and we have the makings for a great family movie night. My 8 year old was able to understand the movie, but my 5 year old had a little trouble sitting through it (basically because he's still more in to animated movies.)

The movie really demonstrates that differences that nature vs. nurture play in the lives of these unknowing identical brothers, who were separated at birth and raised in differing homes. The music is a true gem to listen to and adds to the enjoyment of the movie.

My Thoughts:

Guess How Much I Love You has always been one of my favorite books to read to my kids and even though my preschooler will soon be too old to listen to the book, the memory of the book will last with his forever as part of our bedtime routine is this little conversation, which stemmed from reading him this book, plus a little Toy Story mix thrown in there too :)

Me: I Love You!
Son: I love you more.
M: I love you to the moon.
S: I love you to the moon and back.
M: I love you to Infinity and beyond.
S: Well, I love you the most! (Usually followed up with a Ha! because he thinks he got me - LOL!)

I was excited to hear that there was a DVD of the same title that is a series of episodes of the adventures of Little Nut Brown Hare. This particular DVD is titled "Someone Special" and would be a perfect gift for that someone special in your life. There are other titles as well, but I have only previewed this particular one.

Just as you would expect, Little Nutbrown Hare has some adventures as he try to figure out ways to show Big Nutbown Hare that he is that someone special he cares about the most. It is a very sweet DVD that you will want to sit and watch with your kids.

DVD Review: Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks

My Thoughts:

We were sent the Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks DVD set in order to review them on Save Green Being Green. I thought my daughter would be very interested in this movie because she was/is (not sure which it is anymore as she is growing up and growing out of some of her toys) in My Little Ponies. The Equestria Girls have the same names as the My Little Ponies, but now they are teen girls dealing with social issues of kids, as opposed to ponies. I think the Equestria Girls are just the next step from the ponies as a child grows up and is still holding on to her interest in the ponies but doesn't want to be a "little girl" anymore and wants to be a "big girl" because to an 8 year old the Equestria Girls are not so little girl.

The messages contained within DVD are the same with regards to how to be a good person and a good friends and interact nicely and appropriately in social situations.

The DVD was just released last week on October 28th and you can buy it direct from Shout Factory, but if you buy it in the store they come with some bonuses depending upon which store you buy it from.

My Thoughts:

I don't know how you could go wrong with giving a child a Veggie Tales movie, and it is no different with the newest Veggie Tales "Beauty and the Beet". This newest DVD will be released tomorrow and I am sure it will be a holiday favorite. It's not a "holiday" movie, but the snow and holiday decorations at the Alpine Inn help to set the mood for winter holidays. You can tell what this DVD mimics by the title and children will hear the familiar message about looking deep inside someone to find the good in them and loving them even when they are not very loving to you. Of course the Beet is mean and unloving to everyone at the start of the show and along comes Mirabelle (the Beauty) who believes God loves everyone and that we should show love to everyone and if they feel love they might begin to show love, which is exactly what happens. The show ends (like expected) with an ultimate act of love that results in the life of the Beet completely changing.

Review: Jack and the Cuckoo Clock Heart RELEASED TODAY!

My Thoughts:

My kids were thrilled they had the opportunity to review a full length movie before it was released on DVD. Jack and the Cuckoo Clock Heart has just been released TODAY! Although, there were several parts of the movie that were over my kids heads (ages 5 & 8) and not suited for them, which makes sense as it is rated PG.

This movie is going to be appealing to those that are Tim Burton movie-type fans. It is very much created in that style and type of storyline. The theme of the movie in which is child is raised within limitations out of his control learns and explores pushing the boundaries of those limitations for the purpose of love make this a sweet and romantic animated movie.

Review:Littlest Pet Shop "Passport to Fashion"

Guess what was released today!!! The DVD Littlest Pet Shop "Passport to Fashion "!!! My kids love this program, especially my daughter and she was very excited that we were sent a promotional copy in advance so that we could review it on this blog and tel my readers about it. All thoughts, opinions and photographs belong to me.

My Thoughts

This is a DVD that is 110 minutes long so there is plenty of entertainment, especially for the long car rides up to the cabin for us. There are 5 different episodes, so they are not expected to sit and watch all 100 minutes at once. Plus there is a bonus sing a long that is pretty fun for the kids. If you child is in to Littlest Pet Shop or cute little animals with big cute eyes, they are going to love this!

Review: Transformers Rescue Bots: Mystery Rescue

My Thoughts:

In case you missed it, Transformers Rescue Bots: Mystery Rescue was just released at the beginning of the month. We just received it in the mail last week to review and my son has been enjoying it. He actually likes it so much that he said he wants to get this movie for his friend for their birthday too! I would say that speaks pretty highly of something when a child has it and enjoys it and thinks a friend needs to have it as well.

MY LITTLE PONY- FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC: SPOOKTACULAR PONY TALES does not disappoint for all those My Little Pony fans out there. My daughter has over 50 my little ponies (from all generations of MLP - thank you garage sales!!) and even though she is getting older, My Little Ponies still hold a special place in her heart and she will still play with them and loves to watch the cartoons. My Little Pony cartoons are excellent for teaching kids social roles and rules without them realizing it.

Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles "The Next Mutation" DVD

My Thoughts:

This 1997-1998 Throwback of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles did not disappoint. These were not the Turtles I grew up with and not the Turtles of my kids generation, they are the turtles from the gap in my TMNT viewing. I didn't view them as much when I was growing up as I do now that I have a son of my own who is a huge fan of them. This particular DVD is titled, "The Next Mutation" and is costumed characters, not animated cartoons.

The DVD features about 2 hours of episodes that include 6 TMNT episodes, as well as 2 Power Rangers Bonus episodes. The DVD was just released on August 5th and I am sure your kids (or maybe yourself) would love to get some good screen time in to watch some throwback episodes.

My Thoughts:

I just watched this with my 8 year old and 4 year old today. It is a good length (just under an hour) to watch for a family movie night with young kids. They both were very interested in the movie the entire time. My daughter was particularly interested in seeing this DVD because they have a series of the books at school that happen after they go live with their grandfather and play in the boxcar in the backyard. She didn't realize that there was a "before" were they actually lived in the boxcar and the adversity they had to overcome in order stay together and survive.

About the Film

Four orphaned and homeless siblings happen upon an abandoned boxcar, which with a little creativity and hard work, they gradually furnish with all the comforts of home. Fearful that they will be sent to live with the reputedly cruel grandfather they have never met, the children keep their new home a secret - until a serious illness forces them to reveal themselves in order to save young Violet.

Featuring an all-star cast of voice actors, including Academy Award Nominee Martin Sheen (Apocalypse Now), J.K. Review: CLUE DVD from Shout Factory

With a heat index of 100+ degrees today (dew point levels were crazy!, plus it was hot - totally tropical in MN) we ended up spending much of the day indoors and so I suggested to the kids that we watch the DVD CLUE, which we just received from Shout Factory to review. I knew my daughter was really going to be in to it and I was right. Now, she wants to know if there are more episodes of CLUE. I told her that we actually own the original game (hasn't been dusted off since we had kids) and we had to get that out as well and my husband told her about the original CLUE movie and she wants to see that too. It is so neat to see how a recent re-make of a movie is spurring interest in my daughter for things that we have memories of from our childhood and can now share them with our children as adults.

Review: Littlest Pet Shop "Strike a Pose"

My daughter was super excited that we got "Littlest Pet Shop - Strike a Pose!" from Shout Factory to review. She complains that I get too many DVDs to review that are for my brother. Of course, because it is all pets and his big sister loves it, my son loves it too. The DVD consists of 5 different episodes and a bonus sing-along for a total of 110 minutes of entertainment. What's not to love with all these big-eyed pets having tons of adventures.

This DVD was released recently, just 2 days ago to be exact. You can buy it directly from the Shout Factory website, along with many other favorite kids' videos.

Review: Transformers: Energon, Volume One

My son was so excited to see what was in the mail today, a new DVD to review for free!! This time we were reviewing Transformers Energon: Volume One. He couldn't wait to go veg out in front of the TV after a busy day at preschool and I was happy to oblige on this rainy day in MN. Tomorrow is supposed to be nice, so we will be too busy playing outside to spend any time sitting in front of the TV.

This DVD from Shout Factory includes the first 7 episodes with a total run length of 154 minutes, which is one of the longest kid DVDs that I think we own. While he didn't watch it all of it in one sitting, not even close, the DVD does have the option to pick which episodes you want to watch you so can come back to them whenever you want.

I also really like that this DVD goes write to the main menu without previews for anything else or advertisements for toys or anything. I like to minimize how many advertisements and previews my son sees. I know that he is already exposed to quite a bit, but I minimize where I can. Plus, since he doesn't know how to use the Xbox control to get DVDs started I can get it started right away for him and now have to hang around in front of the TV fast-forwarding through previews.

He really enjoyed this DVD. I mean, it's Transformers - they are machines that turns in to robots and is good fighting against evil, so what's not to love.

Review: Delivery Man (RELEASED TODAY! 3/25)

My Thoughts:

I had the fun privilege of reviewing Delivery Man, which was released to Blu-ray, DVD, Digital and On-Demand today!!!! Have you seen it yet? My husband and I had a date night when it was released to the theater. We had seen a preview of the movie and have always been fans of Vince Vaughn, so we saw it opening weekend. When I was asked if I wanted to review the DVD, I jumped at the chance to be able to own the Blu-Ray and view it in my home.

The role is a fairly typical one for Vince Vaughn, the underachiever role seems to be his type-cast, so he is perfect for the part. The movie really illustrates how a children from the same parent can be so different from each other. Throughout the movie he struggles with deciding if he wants to disclose that he is actually a father and what that means to him, his current relationship and what being a father to so many children mean. The movie does a good job of making you understand how these children must feel about wanting to know more about the other half of their genetic code.  It is a feel good movie and one that has you think a little bit about decisions you have made in your past and how they can affect your future.

What I am most excited about it seeing the bonus clips, behind the scenes footage and deleted scenes. Aren't those always the best! You can't see them at the theater and you can only see them on the dvd.

This was a no-brainer that TRANSFORMERS RESCUE BOTS: Heroes on the Scene was going to be a huge hit with my 4 year old son. This DVD includes 5 episodes ( The Lost Bell,  You’ve Been Squilshed,  Little White Lies,  Shake Up, and  Rescue Boy) which has a run time of 110 total minutes. Of course I was right that he was going to love this DVD and immediately asked to watch it and for some popcorn to eat with his "movie". Even though this consists of 5 episodes, he thinks anything that comes in a case like this is a movie, which is great when you don't have time for a long movie. He couldn't wait to show my husband the movie we were watching because he loves that he can share Transformers with his dad since these were a favorite of my husband's when he was growing up.

This movie was JUST RELEASED YESTERDAY, Mach 18th! So, you can be one of the first to own it!

Review: Slugterra - Heroes of the Underground DVD

My review will give you a sneak peak at the new DVD to hit store shelves on March 4th called Slugterra: Heroes of the Underground. My son was instantly drawn to this DVD when I took it out of the envelope without even having any experience with it. He is such a boy-boy! Anything that is typically a male gender-typed toy, interest, whatever.....he is just drawn too and this was no exception.

He watched the entire thing within a few viewings, as it is 110 minutes of run time with 5 episodes and 2 bonus features. So, there is plenty to see and keep kids entertained. When I asked him what he liked best he said it was that the slugs were funny to watch and with slug names like Burpy, you can certainly see why he would think it is funny.

DVD Review: The Adventures of Chuck & Friends: Trucks Versus Wild

I had the opportunity to review The Adventures of Chuck and Friends: Trucks Versus Wild by Shout Factory with my family. When the review opportunity presented itself I knew that my 4 year old son was going to be super excited to help me out with this review. My kids are always excited to help me review, especially when it is something with them in mind. He has never seen any Chuck and Friends cartoons, but he does have a handful of the toys that he plays with, so he was very familiar with the characters. He really enjoyed watching it and I am sure he is going to start educating me more about cars and trucks after watching it over and over.

This DVD consists of 10 different episodes, as well as a bonus feature of a brand new sing-a-long. The DVD provides approx. 110 minutes of entertainment for children that is sprinkled with lessons of social skills, interpersonal relationships and a tidbit of automotive maintenance knowledge as well. The DVD was released last month (actually, exactly a month ago) so you can already buy this DVD on Amazon.

Review: Minnie-Rella DVD

I was sent the new Mickey Mouse Clubhouse "Minnie-Rella" to review with my children in advance of it's release to DVD (February 11th) and on TV (February 14th). I thought this was the perfect way to continue to get them pumped up about our trip to Florida later this month and our visit to Walt Disney World to meet Mickey and Minnie and see Cinderella's castle.

Review: Transformers Prime: Ultimate Bumblebee DVD

My son was so excited when I showed him what was in the mail box for us to review now, a new DVD of Transformers Prime: Ultimate Bumblebee. I have to admit that with having my daughter being the oldest child and not growing up playing with Transformers (not sure that my brother had as big of an interest in it as he did other things), I am not quite as familiar with Transformers. But I do have a husband that grew up loving them and watching them a lot and the apple apparently does not fall from the tree as my son thinks they are awesome. He has a couple of Transformer toys and a Transformer book and we have seen the cartoon on TV, but this is the first Transformer DVD that we own.

 As soon as we walked in the house, he immediately got out of all his winter clothe sand put them away (if you were in my house you would know that I have to remind the kids to put their outerwear away) and had the wrapper off and asking if he can go watch it right away.

He was just mesmerized by all our episodes on this DVD. The whole DVD length is 88 minutes. I hope my daughter likes watching it too, because it is nice to have some long-ish DVDs in rotation when we are taking long road trips to visit my family or go up north. If you have a Transformer fan in your family, you will definitely want to get this DVD when it is released on February 25th!
