Summer Reading Programs

PBS Kids: This is a summer reading challenge that begins June 6th (my daughters last day of school coincidentally!) It 's a free 6-week program. You’ll also get book suggestions and discounts, free downloads of PBS KIDS shows and a daily chance to win $1,000 and other great prizes.

Barnes and Noble: Kids can earn a free book when they complete their reading log. Free Books start at the 1st grade reading level.

Half Price Books: Read 300 minutes to earn  $5 HPB Bucks for BOTH JUNE & JULY to use towards the purchase of a new book (s). For ages 14 and under. Parents may read to kids who are still learning to read.

Scholastic: Log your minutes to earn prizes.

Chuck e Cheese: Kids can earn 10 free tokens every 2 weeks for filling out their reading chart. Other types of reward charts for tokens are also available.

Pottery Barn: When a Child 10 and under completes a reading list they can earn a free book. Limit of one free book per child.

Sylvan Learning: This is a free way to earn prizes online for kids K-8 (we have not tried this one yet, but we intend to)

Libraries: Don't forget to check with your local libraries about reading programs they offer. The ones near us offer an incentive at different intervals if you meet a reading goal and they offer weekly live programs, storytimes, and entertainment for the kids. They are really great programs

Don't forget you can also check out the online storytime from Barnes & Noble. This month it is the Very Hungry Caterpillar. They change books monthly and the story is often read by the author, which is quite a neat experience for a child.

And there is always Starfall.com that your children can have books read to them, as well as some other online storybook options.
